JOHOR BARU – Barisan Nasional (BN) has called on Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to openly apologise to Umno and the coalition immediately.

Johor BN general election operations director Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this comes following Syed Saddiq’s allegations that a group of youths attempting to disrupt Muda’s ceramah on Sunday night were organised by Umno.

According to him, the reckless and baseless accusations have given a bad image to Umno and BN.

“In fact, this baseless accusation was also denied by Muar Umno Youth chief, Mohd Helmy Abd Latif,” he said in a statement today.

Onn Hafiz pointed out that Syed Saddiq, who is also the incumbent Muar MP, should be held accountable for hurling accusations to induce the people’s hatred towards Umno and BN.

“I carefully observed what Syed Saddiq said in the video that went viral yesterday.

“In his speech, he recklessly slandered Umno and BN without any proof, let alone evidence and witnesses, by slandering Umno and BN for causing an uproar at the rally.

“(He should stop) immature politicking! I urge him to publicly apologise to Umno and BN people as soon as possible!” he added.

Muar Umno Youth has denied their involvement in a commotion that took place during the “Mega Muar” rally on Sunday night, which saw a group of youth attempting to disrupt Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s speech.

Taking to Twitter, Muar Umno youth chief Helmy said that he strongly rejects any form of provocation in politics.

Helmy’s response follows allegations levelled by Syed Saddiq’s head of strategic communications, Farhan Iqbal, who claimed that Umno was behind the incident.

“Syed Saddiq’s first ceramah and Umno has already sent its boys to kacau (disturb),” Farhan tweeted late Sunday night.

When contacted for clarification, Farhan responded: “Several locals identified these guys who were part of the group.”

Meanwhile, Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya said that the party will be filing a police report on the matter.

“Whoever rejects dirty politics must make a police report...Don’t use the excuse that you don’t recognise who did it. We have proof,” she said. – The Vibes, October 18, 2022
